Day Four of EPT Open Sochi, October 2019 Recap

Catching Up with Krasnaya Polyana's Transformation! Evgeny Sboev Goliaths the Bounty, Rafail Sushkin Tugs the Ozzy Omaha, Brief Chat with Anton Kutsenko.

Krasnaya Polyana, a tiny hamlet nestled in the Caucasus, has undergone a metamorphosis through the years, and it is a delight to witness its transformation. When our crew first landed here in cold January 2017, the town's streets were blocked by cars. It lacked the bloom of flowers and the emerald canopy of trees. Shops and watering holes were limited.

Come October 18-19, the splashy grand opening of the excitement barnyard "WOW-Arena" is planned. The show will kick off on the opening day with an exclusive performance by the sensational Dimash Kudaibergenov, followed by an international mixed martial arts throwdown the next day.

Shift gears, and let's flip through a tête-à-tête with Ezatullah Amani concerning Khabib.

Bounty Bonanza

On October 6, a tournament with a $260 buy-in and a $100 bounty per participant was rolled out. The total bounty prize pool hung around 18,200 rubles ($260).

With 265 bold souls in the arena, the competition burgeoned to 358 by round six. After the last player signed up, the tally was 396 entries and a $91K prize pool. 55 players raked in the dough, and after trailing for four hours, the final table was set.

The top three athletes consented to an ICM arrangement, as their stacks were relatively even. They left around $1K for the first place and the trophy.

Rumble in the Jungle

Evgeny Sboev emerged victorious in the Bounty tournament, pocketing $7,835 without counting the bounties.

We can't help but bring attention here to the solitary non-Russian finalist, the Kazakhstan native Yernat Tumanshiyev. He made waves earlier this year at the EPT Open's Pot-Limit Omaha event, finishing in 4th place and scooping $2,9K. In this tournament, he repeated his 4th place finish, adding $3,7K and 11 bounties to his winnings.

A quick Q&A with Evgeny before his triumph.

An Omaha Powowow with a $460 buy-in, one re-entry, and 98 participants brought in a $40K prize pool.

As per the usual convention at this EPT Open series, the remaining trio agreed to a deal once the final table was reached. They swiftly agreed on an ICM-based payout distribution, however, continued their dance for the remaining $1,5K and the champion's tiara.

Taking Center Stage

In the end, Rafail Shuiskin snatched the crown and a grand total of $8,664.

The champion declined to pose for a selfie.

Once more, we tip our hats to the stalwart Kazakhstani poker players who outmatch their local competitors. This time, Svetlana Aubakirova grabbed the runner-up spot, walking away with $6,1K. Interestingly, Svetlana is a frequent performer at the live poker circuit, with her best career win checking in at $87K.
