Deadly road collision on Werler Street, reported in police news
In the heart of Hamm on September 1, a tragic traffic accident occurred on Werler Street, claiming the life of a 43-year-old motorcyclist from the city.
The incident took place around 4:35 PM, involving a BMW car traveling uptown and a Suzuki motorcycle heading downtown on the same street. The collision occurred at the intersection with Heideweg, with the motorcyclist being hit by the passenger side of the BMW.
The 68-year-old driver of the BMW was present at the scene, along with a 63-year-old passenger who had to be extricated and was taken to the hospital with severe injuries. A 38-year-old cyclist from Hamm was also hit by flying debris from the accident and was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
Upon hearing of the accident, firefighters and several bystanders provided first aid at the scene. To ensure a thorough investigation, the police in Hamm and the police accident investigation team from Münster were involved. Both vehicles involved in the accident were impounded.
As a result of the accident, Werler Street was closed between Rhynerberg and Dr.-Loeb-Caldenhof-Straße from 9:30 PM until the investigation was complete. The closure caused traffic to be rerouted during this time.
Several emergency chaplains, a victim support team from the Hamm police, and an accident investigation team from Münster police were present at the scene. Despite immediate CPR, the 43-year-old motorcyclist died at the scene.
