Death in Pisa following cosmetic silicone treatment, under investigation

In the heart of Tuscany, a tragic incident has shone a spotlight on the persistent issue of the black market for illegal cosmetic procedures. A 44-year-old Brazilian woman, Mirella, lost her life after receiving an injection of illegal oil, not silicone, administered by so-called "pumpers."

The agents investigating Mirella's death have been gathering testimonies from her usual environment to identify the person responsible. Known in certain circles as "bombaderos," this individual is currently under investigation for negligent homicide.

The tragic incident in Pisa is not an isolated case. Another trans woman had already died in Modena due to similar circumstances. Regina Satariano, president of the Transgender Consultation Center in Torre del Lago (Lucca), has been raising alarms against these illegal procedures for years.

Mirella's death began to unfold when she felt unwell immediately after the injection, which was administered to her last week by someone known in the pumping scene who had come from Rome. Two days later, her condition worsened, and she was taken to Cisanello hospital. However, she did not seek immediate medical attention out of fear of consequences. The next day, she succumbed to complications from the injection.

According to medical reports, the illegal substance severely compromised Mirella's health, leading to a fatal infection that caused respiratory failure. The Pisa mobile squad has partially acquired Mirella's medical records to aid in the investigation.

Satariano, who has been fighting against the illegal practice of injecting cosmetic substances for years, demands justice for Mirella and wants to prevent similar incidents from happening again. She believes that silence on this matter amounts to complicity. The Transgender Consultation Center will constitute itself as a civil party in any potential trial.

The investigation into Mirella's death began today following Satariano's social media report. The autopsy is forthcoming for further information. Industrial liquid silicone for aesthetic purposes has been banned in Italy since 1993, yet the black market continues to thrive and claim victims.

Satariano continues her fight against the illegal practice of injecting cosmetic substances, which some trans people resort to due to its lower cost and accessibility. She hopes that Mirella's death serves as a reminder of the dangerous consequences that come with such procedures and encourages anyone with information about the black market to come forward.
