Death was attributed to a fall, as reported by the mother.

In the small town of Heringen, located in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district, a shocking discovery was made on February 22, 2025. A friendly Polish couple, who were looking after the defendant's house during her absence, stumbled upon a tragic scene in the basement freezer.

The couple, who had known the defendant for about ten years, found a bag containing a dead baby next to some spinach packages. At first, they only saw an arm and a foot, which sent them into a state of horror and disbelief. Upon closer inspection, they realised the full extent of their discovery.

According to the defendant's statement in court, she gave birth to her child alone in the basement of her former residence on July 22, 2024. The defendant, who was drunk during the birth, had a fall which led to her child's unfortunate demise.

The neighbour, who had known the couple for about a decade, expressed suspicion that the defendant had already been pregnant in 2021. This suspicion was based on a statement from the defendant's mother, Facebook photos, and a sudden weight loss the neighbour observed at that time. The neighbour also experienced a similar weight loss around the same period.

The defendant's former partner, who was in Poland with their two daughters at the time of the birth, claims to have known nothing about the pregnancy. The defendant's statement in court indicates that she did not want to take the dead baby out with the trash or burn it.

The discovery of the baby was only made nine months later, raising questions about why the defendant did not seek help after the birth. The defendant did not make a personal statement in court on Thursday, contrary to an earlier announcement.

This case has sent shockwaves through the small town of Heringen, leaving residents in disbelief and sorrow. The investigation is ongoing, and the court is yet to reach a verdict.
