Debate over the Constitution Stirs Conversation on Upholding Law and Fairness

In Astana on August 29, a conference titled "Constitution and Statehood: Dialogue Between Law and the Future" was held, gathering over 500 participants including judges, legal scholars, members of parliament, and the professional legal community. The event, organised by the Constitutional Court, aimed to discuss the role of the Constitution in shaping Kazakhstan's future.

Elvira Azimova, the Chairwoman of the Constitutional Court, opened the conference, stating that the Constitution is the source for the implementation of all initiatives and proposals by citizens of Kazakhstan. She further emphasized that the Constitution is an unshakable source for the implementation of constitutional rights.

Serik Irsaliyev, President of the Astana International University, spoke at the conference, highlighting the need to make the Constitution active and adaptable in the modern world. He stated that the Constitution is the living energy of the unity of the people and the state, the guarantee of stability and confidence in the future.

Irsaliyev also emphasized that today, in this anniversary year, they are not only taking stock but also opening up new horizons, facing challenges of the modern world, and finding answers at meetings like the one today.

Artur Lastayev, Kazakhstan's Human Rights Commissioner, emphasized the responsibility of all institutions in ensuring the effective implementation of constitutional principles. He noted that over the past decades, Kazakhstan has demonstrated its willingness to strengthen the protection of rights by making this process institutionally formalized and backed by international commitments.

Lastayev stated that the Constitution of Kazakhstan has remained the fundamental basis of their society for 30 years. He highlighted the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan as the fundamental law that responds to the current demands of society.

Mechanisms for protecting the basic law, preventing legal nihilism, and ensuring the rule of law were also discussed during the conference. Constitutional stability was emphasized as a fundamental condition for the progressive development of the state and society.

Elvira Azimova also emphasized that today, society in Kazakhstan is considered a mature society. She encouraged all participants to continue the dialogue and work together to ensure the effective implementation of the Constitution in shaping Kazakhstan's future.
