On a tragic morning on August 13, a single-vehicle crash occurred along Route 5 & 20 near 3735 State Route 5&20 in the Town of Hopewell, New York. The incident, which took place just after 7 a.m., claimed the life of Benjamin Best, a 32-year-old resident of Oswego.
Emergency crews from Canandaigua Ambulance and the Hopewell Fire Department swiftly responded to the scene of the crash. Despite their best efforts, Mr. Best was pronounced dead at the site of the accident.
The Ontario County Sheriff's Office and Coroner's Office are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. At this time, the accident investigator who conducted the investigation has not been publicly disclosed.
Preliminary findings suggest that speed may have played a role in the crash. Mr. Best was the only person in the vehicle, which veered off the road and struck a tree.
The crash resulted in the temporary closure of Route 5 & 20 between Freshour Road and Mumby Road for several hours during the investigation.
