The Swedish Gambling Authority, or Spelinspektionen, remains steadfast in its mission to curb offshore gambling activities, despite the incidental nature of such activities among players. According to the regulator's boss, Camilla Rosenberg, players tend to find these websites and options on their own, rather than being actively targeted.

Prior to the legalization of the Swedish gambling market in 2019, approximately 50% of total gambling spending was going offshore. This figure has since decreased, with the 2023 channelization rate standing at 86%. However, the authority continues to track the market's channelization rate, aiming to bring it closer to 100%.

Anna Sterner, the head of the Swedish Gambling Authority, expresses optimism about the future. The authority is updating its verification methods to confirm channelization numbers ahead of the 2025 market survey. This rigorous approach aims to ensure stringent criteria for both licensees and suppliers.

The authority not only holds licensees accountable but also binds suppliers in such a way that they would lose their licenses if their products appear at a non-Spelinspektionen licensed website accessible from Sweden. This proactive approach has been successful in stemming much of the targeted traffic against Swedish players.

In the Netherlands, where the market has been up and running for some time, almost a similar figure (50%) is cited for offshore spending, even years after official legalization. This trend echoes the pre-legalization figure in Sweden, indicating a persistent challenge for gambling authorities.

Despite these challenges, the Swedish Gambling Authority remains hopeful. At least 96% of all Swedish gamblers have tried a licensed website, a testament to the authority's efforts to promote legal and regulated gambling options. The authority's optimism is further bolstered by the fact that 85% of the gambling market is now channelized.

In conclusion, the Swedish Gambling Authority continues its efforts to curb offshore gambling activities, despite the incidental nature of such activities among players. The authority's rigorous verification methods, proactive approach to suppliers, and promotion of licensed websites are key strategies in this ongoing battle. The authority's optimism is justified by the increasing number of Swedish gamblers using licensed websites and the decreasing offshore spending figures.
