Delay in enforcing car restriction under Montreal's project

The Camillien-Houde road redevelopment project, initially slated to begin in 2027, now looks set to commence later in 2028 or early 2029. This shift comes as the successor of Valerie Plante plans to make adjustments to the project, which has faced criticism since last spring.

The City of Montreal intends to maintain vehicle access via the western part of Mont Royal, specifically on Remembrance Road, up to the Beaver Lake. However, concerns have been raised about the accessibility of Mont Royal for the elderly, people with reduced mobility, and parents with young children. To address these concerns, the option of including public transportation on Camillien-Houde has been mentioned.

In addition, a shuttle will be integrated into the project, with its inclusion considered an indispensable condition. Cyclists and shuttles will, in principle, circulate on separate paths. The project also includes the construction of a belvedere offering a view of northern Montreal.

The number of lanes will decrease from four to two on the entire trunk, which has already begun to be redeveloped. The project aims to transform the artery into a cycling and pedestrian pathway, with parking spaces being removed and trees being planted.

Despite extensive searches, no information has been found regarding the person selected as the successor candidate for the redesign of the Camillien-Houde Path on Mont Royal after Valerie Plante's resignation. The project remains a topic of interest and discussion among Montreal residents as it progresses.
