Delay in town hall schedule - Construction complications cause setbacks

The New Town Hall project, a significant development for the city, is currently facing a delay in its completion. Preparations for the new wall positions have commenced on the construction site, but unforeseen developments have arisen during the renovation work.

The landlord, Concarus Real Estate, is responsible for the renovation of the New Town Hall. The project, being large and complex, is not immune to unexpected challenges. Mayor Frank Stein has acknowledged this, emphasizing that such occurrences are common in projects of this size and complexity.

The coordination and handoffs between project partners have proven to be more complex than initially expected. Additionally, structural and technical issues have surfaced after the demolition of the existing building. To address these issues, further planning and additional construction measures are required.

The main reasons for the delay are construction-related and ownership changes during the project phase. Despite these setbacks, Melissa Kemmerling, the project manager for the New Town Hall, has assured that measures within the city's responsibility are still on schedule.

The city's preparations for future occupancy of the New Town Hall, including digitization, e-file introduction, and workspace equipment, are proceeding as planned. Mayor Frank Stein remains committed to creating a modern, digital, and citizen-friendly administrative hub with the New Town Hall.

A comprehensive status report will be presented to the political bodies in the fourth quarter of 2025. This report aims to transparently present the project progress, contextualize the reasons for the delay, and explain the next steps. The report will also highlight the potential benefits the New Town Hall project brings to the city in terms of perspective and development.

The delivery date of the New Town Hall has been pushed back from December 1, 2025, to mid-September 2026. The landlord has not disclosed specific details about the absences among builders and contractors during the renovation process. The building is constructed using wooden system building methods.

Despite the delay, the city remains optimistic about the completion of the New Town Hall project. The project team is working diligently to overcome the challenges and deliver a modern, efficient, and citizen-friendly administrative hub as planned.
