Delhi to Cease Supplying Fuel for Petrol and Diesel Vehicles Starting July 1
The Delhi Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has announced a new rule aimed at combating the rising air pollution levels in the city. The rule targets petrol vehicles older than 15 years and diesel vehicles older than 10 years, regardless of the state in which they are registered.
The CAQM is likely to strictly enforce this rule, and has informed every fuel station about the ruling. Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras have been set up at 500 fuel stations in Delhi to identify vehicles that fall under this category. The remaining 20 fuel stations aim to have ANPR cameras installed by the end of the month.
The rule prohibits end-of-life vehicles from receiving fuel in Delhi from July 1. However, there is still some confusion regarding the applicability of the law for vehicles re-registered outside of Delhi but have received clearance certificates. The rule's applicability for tourist vehicles, cabs, and other commercial vehicles passing through Delhi also needs clarification.
The air quality in Delhi is often atrocious, with health hazards rising each year. This new rule is a significant step towards improving the city's air quality and ensuring a healthier environment for its residents.
More updates on the matter are expected to be shared soon, providing further clarity on the rule's implications and enforcement. Stay tuned for more information.
