Detailed Explanation Needed Regarding the Implemented Steps to Prevent Delays in the Enforced Road Closure
In the heart of Karlsruhe, a much-anticipated renovation project of a pedestrian bridge leading over Herrenalber Straße at the intersection of Battstraße has encountered unexpected setbacks.
The city of Karlsruhe initiated the renovation work to address the dilapidated state of the bridge, with the Karlsruhe Government Presidency (RP) budgeting around 650,000 euros for the project. However, a delay in the renovation has been announced, pushing the completion date back to October 2.
The delay is due to significant structural damage in the area of the bearing surfaces of the currently raised cantilever support. These damages were not visible in the preliminary investigations, causing a surprise for the project team.
As a result, those coming from the motorway, Ettlingen, or the Alb valley who want to drive to Karlsruhe must take a long detour via B3 and the South Tangent or alternatively via the feeder road, the L605. Residents of Rüppurr, in particular, will have to plan more time for their journey home from the southern direction.
Traffic participants must expect diversions, significantly longer than expected, as the delay means alternative routes are required for the next two and a half weeks. The scaffolding towers under the pedestrian bridge will remain until early October, affecting traffic further.
It's important to note that the roadworks on Herrenalber Straße/L561 in Karlsruhe-Rüppurr have been completed earlier than planned. In the direction of Ettlingen, one lane remains open. Additionally, one lane in the direction of Ettlingen has been converted to a cycle path as part of a traffic trial from 2022.
The pedestrian bridge, a safe school route from Alt-Rüppurr to the Garden City, is particularly used by children. The renovated lanes cannot be marked until the scaffolding is removed, but rest assured, the project team is working diligently to ensure the renovation is completed as soon as possible.
Despite the delay, the city remains committed to the improvement of its infrastructure. The road surface renewal on a length of around 500 meters was completed since mid-July, marking a significant step towards the overall renovation project.
For the latest updates on the project, residents and commuters are advised to check the official city of Karlsruhe website or local news outlets.
