Details of the Day's Events: 'Tour dementia' Action Day for Dementia Patients and Families
On September 17, 2025, the city of Bergisch Gladbach and the Regional Office for Aging, Care, and Dementia of the Bergisches Land are hosting a comprehensive action day dedicated to the topic of dementia. This event, timed to coincide with World Alzheimer's Day, promises a varied program from morning till evening.
The day will kick off with a lecture titled "Dement - what now?" at the DRK Refrather Treff, led by Senior Physician Meike Jacobsen from the EVK Bergisch Gladbach at 10:00 AM. Later in the day, at 12:00 PM, Claudia Freudenberger from the guardianship office of the city of Bergisch Gladbach will lead a lecture on "Legal representation options in dementia - legal guardianship is good, power of attorney is better."
At the Marktplatz Stadtmitte, visitors can engage in a number of activities. A portrait photo exhibition titled "The radiance of age" will be showcased from 2:30 PM, featuring photos from the encounter centers of Caritas RheinBerg. At the same location, the Regional Office's bike tour, the "Tour Demenz," will arrive around 3:25 PM, and visitors can accompany the group at the Radwerk (Caritas) information booth. The bike group will be welcomed by the First Deputy Mayor Anna Maria Scheerer and other representatives of the city and the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis.
At 4:00 PM, a guided tour of Villa Zanders will take place, with a focus on the encounter with selected artworks of the exhibition "Eckart Hahn: Papiertiger" and the dance offer "In rhythm of memory" for people with and without dementia. Registration for the "With all senses in rhythm of memory" offer at 4 PM is required by September 15, 2025.
Other information booths on the Marktplatz Stadtmitte from 2:30 PM include the Contact office for self-help care, Stadtbücherei, Guardianship office, Aging support office, Care counseling Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis, ADFC Rhein-Berg, and Radwerk (Caritas). At the ADFC Rhein-Berg information booth, visitors can try out an e-tandem.
The event will conclude with a lecture at the Volkshochschule Bergisch Gladbach at 5:30-7:00 PM, led by Dr. Anja Schneider, titled "Driving with dementia - help for relatives and interested parties." After the welcome, the bike group will take a break before continuing on their way.
