Calpine Corporation, America's largest generator of electricity from natural gas and geothermal resources, has entered into a significant power agreement with global data center leader CyrusOne. The partnership, valued at $1.2 billion, will see the construction of a new data center in Bosque County, Texas, named DFW10.

Under the agreement, Calpine will deliver up to 400 MWs of power to the data centers located in Bosque County, leveraging its extensive generation and wholesale and retail platform in ERCOT (Electric Reliability Council of Texas). This collaboration aims to support the reliability of the ERCOT grid and benefit all Texans.

The new data center is being developed by CyrusOne, a leading global data center owner, developer, and operator with over 55 data centers across the United States, Europe, and Japan. The first phase of the DFW10 campus will encompass more than 190,000 square feet, with scalable capacity to meet future demand.

CyrusOne specializes in comprehensive solutions for hyperscale and enterprise companies, enabling customers to align with their unique business and sustainability goals. The new CyrusOne campus will feature climate-neutral initiatives, water conservation, biodiversity protection, and capabilities to respond during ERCOT grid emergencies.

State Representative Angelia Orr supports the project, stating it helps power the future, invests in rural communities, brings jobs, and keeps Texas at the forefront of economic growth and technology. The partnership is set to create jobs and economic growth in the region where the data center is located.

Calpine Corporation, a private corporation owned by a consortium of investors, led by Energy Capital Partners (ECP), will also capitalize on its newly developed Powered Land Capabilities ("PLC") suite of products and services. The PLC solution is designed for large-load, mission-critical users such as data center operators.

On January 10, 2025, Calpine announced entry into an agreement with Constellation (Nasdaq: CEG) under which Constellation will acquire Calpine. However, the search results do not provide information about the investment companies behind CyrusOne or the operator of the multiphase Data Center Campus DFW10 under contract at Thad Hill Energy Center in Bosque County, Texas.

Calpine Corporation's fleet of 79 energy facilities in operation represents over 27,000 megawatts of generation capacity. The corporation serves customers in 22 states and Canada through wholesale power operations and retail businesses.

A ceremony to commemorate the agreement will be held this autumn at the site. This partnership further strengthens Calpine's role as a strategic energy partner to hyperscale data centers. The new data center, DFW10, is expected to be operational by the fourth quarter of 2026.
