In a series of recent statements, Arrowhead Game Studios' CEO, Shams Jorjani, and Chief Creative Officer, Johan Pilestedt, have hinted at the potential for a Magicka sequel while also discussing the direction of their next game after Helldivers 2.
Launched in 2011, Magicka, an isometric co-op game that focuses on the consequences of friendly fire, has left a lasting impression on gamers with its unique spell-casting system. Players can experiment with various spell combinations, similar to how Stratagems are used in Helldivers 2. However, it's worth noting that Magicka 2, developed by Pieces Interactive in 2015, was a separate project.
Pilestedt, who is overseeing the direction of Arrowhead's next game, has expressed a desire to create a Magicka sequel but is hesitant due to its historical context. He recently responded positively to a fan's question about the possibility of a "Magicka 3D" game, suggesting that the original game's spirit might live on in their next project.
Jorjani has been vocal about the challenges faced during the development of Helldivers 2, stating that it started with a large team, which he described as "baaaad." He has indicated that the pre-production of their next game will start with a smaller team. This approach might mirror the development of Helldivers 2, which followed the original Helldivers game.
As of now, Arrowhead Game Studios has yet to announce their next title after Helldivers 2. Only updates and expansions for Helldivers 2, such as the "Into the Unjust" update, have been confirmed so far. Pilestedt has also taken time to thank the Helldivers community for their kindness towards new players.
