Died at age 62: Notable boxing coach Timm, who molded Germany's boxing elite, passes away
In the quiet town of Schwerin, a significant loss has been felt. Michael Timm, a renowned boxing coach, passed away at the age of 62 due to a cancer illness.
Born on November 13, 1962, in Hagenow, Timm spent most of his life in Schwerin, living a reclusive life and rarely making headlines. However, his impact on German boxing was far from subtle.
Timm was known for his calm demeanor, clear instructions, and meticulous preparation. His humility and focus on his athletes made him a credible and respected figure in the boxing world. Among his protégés were Ruslan Chagaev, Felix Sturm, Ina Menzer, and Jürgen Brähmer, all of whom reached world championship titles under his guidance.
Jürgen Brähmer, one of Timm's protégés, expressed deep sadness upon Timm's death. In a heartfelt message on Instagram, Brähmer appreciated Timm's warmth, laughter, and kindness. He stated that he will carry Timm in his heart forever.
As an amateur boxer, Timm won the European championship title in 1985 in the light-middleweight class. He began working as a trainer at the Schwerin SC in 1986 and later moved to the Hamburg Universum stable, where he worked as head coach until 2012.
Under Timm's leadership, prominent boxers such as Felix Sturm, Jürgen Brähmer, Ruslan Chagaev, and Ina Menzer became world champions. Many of these victories were a testament to Timm's unique coaching style, which didn't require him to be loud to make an impact.
Michael Timm's death leaves a noticeable void, especially in Schwerin. His memory will endure as a trainer who put his athletes first and guided them to success. Timm's work and the careers he guided will remain a significant part of German boxing.
