Diesel Announces New Creative Director as Bruno Collin Departs

After a two-year tenure filled with strength and personality, Bruno Collin, the former artistic director of Italian fashion brand Diesel, has announced his departure from the company. Diesel has not revealed a replacement for Collin, but has confirmed that they will continue to collaborate with him in an external capacity.

The Belgian designer Glenn Martens has been appointed as the new creative director of Diesel, effective from October 2020. Martens, who previously worked with brands like Y/Project and Haider Ackermann, is set to bring his unique vision to the iconic denim label.

Founded by Renzo Rosso in 1978, Diesel has been a pioneer in the fashion industry for over four decades. During Collin's time at the helm, one of his most notable contributions was the powerful slogan Smart critiques. Stupid creates, which resonated with many and became a defining mantra for the brand.

Before joining Diesel in January 2010, succeeding creative director Wilbert Das, Collin co-founded the fashion magazine WAD in 1999 with Brice Compagnon. After leaving Diesel, Collin is returning to WAD, marking a full-circle moment in his career.

Heikki Salonen is overseeing the women's collection at Diesel in Collin's absence. As the brand moves forward under Martens' leadership, fans and fashion enthusiasts eagerly await the fresh direction that the new creative director will bring to Diesel.

In 2010, the group led by Renzo Rosso generated approximately 1.4 billion euros in revenue, highlighting the brand's continued success and influence in the fashion industry. With the appointment of Glenn Martens, Diesel is poised to continue its legacy of innovation and creativity in the years to come.
