Difficult shooting of "Black Hawk Down" remembered by Orlando Bloom
In an open conversation, Orlando Bloom shared his experiences from the set of the 2001 war film, Black Hawk Down. The film, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Ridley Scott, follows 160 elite U.S. soldiers who are dropped into Somalia to capture enemy warlords' lieutenants but instead find themselves in a desperate battle.
Bloom, who played a significant role in the film, described the production as "intense and brutal." The cast, which included Josh Hartnett, Ewan McGregor, Eric Bana, Tom Sizemore, William Fichtner, Jason Isaacs, Sam Shepard, Jeremy Piven, Ioan Gruffudd, Ewen Bremner, Hugh Dancy, and Tom Hardy, among others, experienced the epic nature of the filmmaking firsthand.
Bloom also recalled the severe injury sustained by his co-star, Ben Foster. Foster's injury was so severe that he had to be recast. However, Bloom did not provide specific details about the timeline or circumstances of Foster's injury or recasting.
The intensity of the production led to injuries among the cast, as Bloom himself almost tore his meniscus in his knee during filming. He managed to strap it and get through it, but the experience was undoubtedly challenging for the new actor.
Bloom, who has since found fame in films like Pirates of the Caribbean, described his experience of making Black Hawk Down as "being ordered around and screamed at." Despite the difficult production experience, Bloom expressed his love for the film, particularly the soundtrack, which he described as "awesome."
