diplomatic talks proposed between Moscow and Washington, aiming to address the ongoing Ukraine conflict, to be held in Alaska.

In a significant move towards resolving the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, a memorandum on conflict resolution was handed over by Russia on June 2 during the second round of Russia-Ukraine talks. The main focus of these discussions remained the resolution of the conflict itself.

On August 15, Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump met at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska, a meeting that may have paved the way for further negotiations. Following this encounter, Trump announced his intention to hold a three-way meeting on Ukrainian settlement between the U.S., Russia, and Ukraine as early as August 22.

In a positive development, the parties have agreed to hold a meeting in Washington on August 18 to discuss the details of a ceasefire. This meeting is set to involve key players, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Zelenskyy is expected to visit the Oval Office on Monday evening, as announced by Trump. The White House has stated that they will only start organizing talks if the meeting between the U.S. and Ukrainian presidents on August 18 goes successfully.

The European Union is also playing a role in the negotiations, with plans to send its representative, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, to Washington for a meeting with Donald Trump alongside Zelensky. European politicians hope that Stubb's involvement will help prevent any possible deterioration in relations between Trump and Zelensky.

The talks between the leaders have been productive, with Trump stating that he has agreed with Russian negotiators on many points. Putin, too, described his visit as "timely and quite useful." Both leaders emphasized the need for an immediate cessation of hostilities and a resolution of issues through peaceful means.

Following the summit, a phone conversation took place between the presidents of the United States and Ukraine. The decision to resolve the crisis now lies with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Trump has advised Zelensky to "take the deal", but he did not rule out the possibility that Kyiv might not agree to a deal with Moscow on Ukrainian settlement. No new information about any trade deal or sanctions on Russia was provided in the current paragraph.

The publication also mentions the possibility of NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg's participation in the negotiations. The talks, which lasted for approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes, mark a significant step towards resolving the long-standing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
