In a shocking turn of events, a Scottish single mother has had her son's application for a residential summer camp refused by Over The Wall (OTW), a charity dedicated to helping seriously ill children. The refusal was due to the mother's gender-critical views, according to reports.

This refusal of services to a disabled child has sparked controversy, with many questioning whether it may be unlawful. In a 2021 case, a tribunal ruled that gender-critical beliefs are legally protected. The Free Speech Union (FSU) has lodged a formal complaint with the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator, questioning whether OTW has strayed from its professed aims.

The complaint notes that objecting to the political views of parents should never be grounds for deciding whether vulnerable children can access the services of a charity. The mother, who wishes to remain anonymous to protect her child's identity, was told that her son's application had been declined hours after submitting it.

The mother's application form included a question asking for her son's 'preferred pronouns'. Next to this question, she wrote 'Seriously?'. When OTW's clinical director, Sally McCluskie, asked the mother to explain her response, she replied that she believed in biological sex and didn't think it was appropriate to ask children what their preferred pronouns might be.

This is not the first time trans activists have concealed cruelty under the cloak of 'inclusivity'. A similar case occurred in 2023, involving solicitor Teresa Steele and London's Lady Grace hospital. In that case, Steele was accused of denying life-saving treatment to a pregnant woman due to her transgender status.

The mother, who has ruled out pursuing a discrimination case, believes that this refusal is a violation of her right to freedom of speech and her child's right to equal treatment. Despite the controversy, OTW has not issued a public statement regarding the matter.
