In a disappointing turn of events, world number three Alexander Zverev's quest for his first Grand Slam title continues to elude him, five years after a heart-breaking final drama in New York.

Zverev's latest setback came at the US Open 2025, where he was ousted in the third round by Canadian star Felix Auger-Aliassime with a score of 6:4, 6:7 (7:9), 4:6, 4:6. This marks the earliest Zverev has exited the US Open since 2018, having reached at least the quarterfinals in his last four appearances, including last year.

The German tennis player admitted that his performance at the US Open was below par, attributing it to overall poor play. Moreover, Zverev has been grappling with back pain for weeks, which might have affected his game.

Despite the setback, Zverev remains focused on his upcoming tournament, the Laver Cup, scheduled from September 19 to 21, 2025. However, he will not be participating in the Davis Cup matches on September 12 and 13 in Tokyo, choosing instead to focus on his recovery and preparation for the Laver Cup.

Zverev's Grand Slam record this season has been a source of disappointment for him, with the Australian Open final being his only real highlight. In crucial moments, he was often too passive, an error in strategy that has been criticised for years. Toni Nadal, Rafael Nadal's uncle and successful coach, was not present to guide Zverev on this trip.

Away from the tennis court, there's news in Hamm. The fire brigade is celebrating a big party, and the HSHL and Hamm erFahren 2025 will have open doors. Additionally, a new set of postal voting documents has been released for the election of the Integration Council in Hamm.

Despite the setbacks, Zverev remains optimistic about his tennis career and looks forward to his next challenge at the Laver Cup.
