Laying Down the Law: A Chat with Hindu Anderi on Venezuela's Antifascist Legislation

Venezuela's National Assembly is set to pass the "Anti-Fascism, Neo-Fascism, and Related Expressions Act," commonly known as the "Anti-Fascist Law." By criminalizing fascism, government aims to curb the distribution of content that promotes or glorifies these harmful ideologies. Furthermore, media outlets will be required to promote peaceful coexistence, diversity, tolerance, and respect.

In this interview, we talk to long-time activist Hindu Anderi from the Platform for Solidarity with the Palestinian Cause, who is urging for the inclusion of Zionism in the legislation. Anderi offers a compelling argument for this stance.

Could you give us an overview of the Anti-Fascist Law in progress?

The new law couldn't be timelier. It's relevant both domestically, where the threat of fascism is evident, and globally due to a rising tide of fascism, particularly in Europe and the U.S. Latin America has also witnessed fascist elements, such as Argentina and El Salvador.

Since the Fourth Republic, Venezuela has grappled with a fascist presence. During this period, security forces adopted fascist tactics, and Zionists were prevalent among their ranks. More recent examples include the chaotic street protests known as guarimbas and various instances of fascist violence.

Moreover, there has been an escalation of extremist activity in Venezuela since the July 28 violence orchestrated by opposition leaders, resulting in numerous attacks on Chavista grassroots leaders and the destruction of Chavismo-linked spaces.

The bill will be debated by the general public through a process known as "street parliamentarism" before returning to the National Assembly. The proposed law aims to uphold democratic values by outlawing fascism.

The Platform for Solidarity with the Palestinian Cause is advocating for Zionism to be included in the law. What can you tell us about this movement?

Indeed, our organization has been pushing for Zionism to be included alongside fascism in the legislation. We've been hearing encouraging feedback from National Assembly members, and our efforts continue as the bill's text is still under consideration.

Zionism is closely associated with fascism due to its racist foundation, expansionist mindset, and support for apartheid and exploitation. We believe it's crucial to include Zionism in the law to safeguard our country from These deeply harmful ideologies.

Why should Zionism be included in this particular law?

Zionism poses as great a threat as fascism and operates in a similar fashion. Although less obvious than fascism, Zionism is a far more dangerous adversary that continues to commit Genocide in Gaza under the public's nose.

Like fascism, Zionism is a destructive ideology that seeks to exterminate an entire people. While we do not employ gas chambers like the Nazis, Zionism dismembers and murders Palestinian children. Its ultimate goal is the annihilation of a people, just like fascism.

In Venezuela, how does Zionism manifest?

Zionist associations, both locally and overseas, have long sought to undermine our democratically elected government. During the coup against Hugo Chavez in 2002, Zionist agents such as rabbi Pynchas Brener took the stage. There have been instances of Venezuelan mercenaries fighting alongside the Israeli Defense Forces in Palestine and reported links between Venezuelan authorities and Israel.

Moreover, opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, a self-proclaimed fascist, has maintained strong ties with international Zionism. She has openly supported the Gaza genocide and sought military intervention in Venezuela from Benjamin Netanyahu in 2018. Should she come to power, Machado has promised to reopen the Venezuelan embassy in Jerusalem.

The new law could mark a turning point in the global struggle against Israel's expansionist project if Zionism is included, contributing significantly to the preservation of Palestinian life and culture, and ultimately the preservation of humanity.
