Discussion on Human Rights and Gender Equality

The German Foreign Office has unveiled its funding concept for projects related to human rights in the period from October 2025 to June 2026. This initiative aims to support local civil society actors in developing, emerging, and crisis countries.

Applications for this funding are to be submitted through the local implementer in the target country to the locally responsible German foreign representation. The contact for application submission is [email protected].

There are no general limits on the funding amount for these projects. However, it's worth noting that the projects should be completed within a fiscal year, and regular personal and infrastructure costs of the recipient organization are generally excluded from funding.

The focus of the funded projects will primarily be on developing and emerging countries, as well as crisis regions. A gender-transformative approach that strengthens the rights, resources, or representation of women is desirable. The range of possible project themes and goals corresponds to the 24 priorities of the federal government’s Action Plan on Human Rights 2023/2024, as outlined in the 15th report of the federal government on its human rights policy.

Evaluation expenses are eligible, subject to agreement. However, institutional funding, construction projects, equipment, investments, and projects with titles more suitable for other funding are excluded. The standard financing method is need-based financing, and the promotion of projects and measures aims to support local civil society actors in their human rights endeavours.

It's important to note that state actors are excluded from receiving funding. All projects must be based on a gender-sensitive analysis. Applications should generally be submitted by the end of August of the previous year.

This funding concept is a significant step towards strengthening human rights efforts in the target countries and fostering a more inclusive and equitable society. Interested parties are encouraged to submit their applications to the provided contact address.
