Disney halts The Aristocats remake production, as per director Questlove, who states it "was destined not to occur"
The remake of the classic Disney animated film, The Aristocats, has hit a snag. According to reports, Questlove, the Roots frontman and drummer, who was set to handle directing duties for the project, has decided to step away due to repeated changes in Disney's leadership.
The remake of The Aristocats has been in development for three years, with Questlove presenting Disney with music examples and a list of potential collaborators. However, after a series of changes in Disney's leadership, his involvement in the project seems uncertain.
Interestingly, this isn't the first time Disney has paused a project due to leadership changes. Questlove stated that Disney typically reshuffles their leadership when a new administration comes in.
While The Aristocats remake is currently on hold, Disney is still interested in revisiting some classics and giving them new life. In fact, the live-action Moana movie is the next Disney classic to receive a remake, set to arrive in July 2026.
Disney's billion-dollar success with Lilo and Stitch led to the signing off on a sequel, but it seems that Snow White received a disappointing reception, causing Tangled to be put on pause.
