Disney resolves lawsuit over alleged unjust dismissal involving actress Gina Carano from Star Wars series

In a significant turn of events, Gina Carano and Disney have settled a wrongful termination lawsuit that was filed by the actress in 2024. The lawsuit followed Carano's firing from the popular "Star Wars" spinoff, "The Mandalorian," in February 2021.

The controversy began when Carano posted on social media that Jews were beaten in the streets during World War II, not by Nazi soldiers, but by their neighbours. This post, among others, voicing her opposition to Black Lives Matter, COVID lockdowns, and transgender dogma, led to her dismissal.

Disney, in announcing the settlement, acknowledged that Carano was fired due to a controversial social media post. This departure from their initial stance, where they claimed a First Amendment right not to associate their brand with Carano's views, suggests a change in approach from the media giant.

Carano has maintained that she was fired for her conservative views and was wrongfully discriminated against. In her lawsuit, she demanded that Disney recast her in her role on "The Mandalorian." However, the settlement includes an agreement for Disney to consider working with Carano in the future.

Elon Musk's initiative to fund lawsuits of individuals who feel they were wrongfully discriminated against by their employer backed Carano's lawsuit. Musk supported Carano by paying for her legal lawsuit against Disney. Carano, in turn, posted on Musk's social media platform, X, that "the truth shall set you free."

Pedro Pascal, Carano's co-star on "The Mandalorian," advised her to "just put #transrights in your feed" to appease fans. Carano was also dropped by her talent agency, UTA, in addition to being fired from the show.

The settlement was announced by Disney on Thursday, with Carano posting on her social media that "the truth shall set you free." The details of the settlement have not been disclosed, but it marks a significant resolution to a high-profile legal dispute.
