Disorderly street celebration prompts enhanced law enforcement attendance
In an unexpected turn of events, a brawl broke out at a street festival on Venloer Street on the 10th of August, leading to a large police response around 6:45 PM. The incident, which involved three individuals, resulted in multiple arrests, charges, and injuries among the officers.
The altercation began when a 39-year-old woman, who was under the influence, repeatedly pushed into the police safety zone. Officers attempted to take her into custody, but she resisted, leading to a physical altercation. A breathalyzer test later revealed that her blood alcohol level was above 2.0. Consequently, she will face charges of attempted escape and will be charged with resisting arrest, as will the two men involved.
The two men, aged 38 and 41, also acted aggressively towards the officers, both physically and loudly. The 38-year-old man attacked one of the officers, jumping onto his back, while the 39-year-old woman physically resisted and verbally abused the officers. The 41-year-old man offered significant resistance when officers attempted to detain him.
During the incident, over 20 patrol teams were involved in managing the situation. Despite threats and the deployment of pepper spray, the suspects tried to break free and resist restraint. The officer attacked by the 38-year-old man was not named in the search results; however, one of the officers attacked by the 39-year-old woman in Munich was rendered unfit for duty after the assault. A 24-year-old policewoman sustained minor injuries during the incident.
In a bid to maintain control, the officers seized a folding knife and a butterfly knife from the 39-year-old woman, who was carrying them in a waist pouch. The situation was brought under control, and all three individuals were successfully taken into police custody.
The exact circumstances leading to the outbreak of violence are still under investigation, but it is clear that the festival-goers and officers were left shaken by the events that unfolded that evening. The police are urging anyone with information that could help in the investigation to come forward.
