Dixie Heights' boys and girls track teams triumphantly secure a double victory, clinching region titles in Class 5A.

In a thrilling display of athletic prowess, the Dixie Heights High School track and field team dominated the Class 3A, Region 5 Athletics Championship on Wednesday. The boys team clinched the overall title with 134.5 points, while the girls team secured a narrow 9-point victory with 106 points.

The girls team's triumph was a testament to their versatility, with standout performances across various events. Senior Olivia Holbrook shone brightest, winning four gold medals in the 800 run, 1600 run, 4×800 relay, and 4×400 relay. Her teammate, Emily Bruns, added to the glory by winning the 300-meter hurdles.

The boys team's victory was equally impressive, with the squad placing second in three relays and four individual events. Brennan Simpson claimed victory in the 400 dash, while Carson Hehman won the shot put event. The team's star performer, Ari Carter, added to their tally by winning the discus.

Notre Dame girls team finished in third place with 95 points, while Campbell County girls team narrowly missed out on second place, finishing with 99 points. The search results do not provide information about which school produced the most gold medal winners at the championship.

Cooper boys team finished in second place with 85 points, and Ryle boys team rounded off the top three with 84 points. The boys' team's success was also due to the efforts of Nicholas Kopp, who won the 800 run event. Simon Kenton senior Brayden Polly also impressed with victories in the long jump, triple jump, and high jump events.

Olivia Haswell from the Cooper team added to the girls' team's success, winning a gold medal in the 400 dash and being part of the winning 4×100 and 4×200 sprint relays.
