DOJ urged to safeguard witnesses amidst flood control controversy's scrutiny under Benitez's push
The Bulacan flood control project, marked as completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), has raised concerns as it remains unconstructed. According to President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., this is one of several flood control projects allegedly affected by corruption in the distribution of funds.
The alleged corruption within the DPWH extends to the distribution of funds for flood control projects, as stated by President Marcos. He revealed that 20% of the total budget, approximately P100 billion, for flood control projects went to only 15 contractors, without specifying their identities.
The lawmaker, Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, has called on the Department of Justice (DOJ) to protect DPWH officials, employees, and others with key information under the whistleblower program. Benitez believes that the DOJ should not wait for witnesses to step forward if it wants to bring justice.
Benitez has urged DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan to resign amid the flood control project controversy. He believes that the principle of command responsibility demands accountability for overlooked basic projects. Benitez wants public infrastructure to take no shortcuts and not jeopardize life and safety.
Benitez also wants to put fear in the hearts of those who would corrupt the system for material gain. He wants the DOJ to try, convict, and imprison all those who have plundered public funds intended to protect the people from flooding.
Benitez notes that the fight to bring justice is long and difficult, but necessary for a better future. He encourages witnesses to come forward and is promising protection under the whistleblower program.
The alleged corruption in the DPWH is a significant concern, as it may affect the status of other critical projects. Benitez believes that revealing the truth about the alleged corruption is the responsibility of the government. He wants government processes to be free from corrupt practices.
In conclusion, the Bulacan flood control project, marked as completed but yet to be constructed, is one of the projects allegedly affected by corruption in the distribution of funds for flood control projects. The alleged corruption within the DPWH is a matter of concern, and Benitez is urging the DOJ to take action to protect whistleblowers and bring those responsible to justice.
