Downpours grace select regions of the United Arab Emirates, marking the joyous occasion of the Prophet's Birthday, with locals rejoicing.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) witnessed an unusual weather phenomenon over the weekend, with rain and thunderstorms gracing several cities, including Abu Dhabi and Dubai. This rare event, perfectly timed to mark the weekend, offered a respite from the intense heat and brought a symbolic blessing to many residents commemorating the Prophet's Birthday.

In a video shared by Storm Centre, the sky hung low, draped in shades of grey, while rainwater pooled gently on the roads. Another video captured the soft, rhythmic pitter-patter of raindrops, with no honking or chatter to be heard. For many residents, this moment offered a rare calm and a moment to pause, reflect, and enjoy the tranquillity of a rainy day in the desert.

Dr. Ahmed Habib, a meteorologist from the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), explained that low pressure in both the surface and upper layers over the western parts of the UAE is causing the weather changes. He further stated that these conditions are due to unusual atmospheric disturbances and convective activities leading to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.

In anticipation of these sudden weather changes, the NCM issued a yellow and orange alert for convective clouds, associated with rainfall. Residents were advised to stay updated on the latest advisories regarding the weather, and motorists and travellers were urged to plan ahead due to the potential impact on road conditions.

On Friday, September 5, rainfall was seen in parts of Ghashaba and Al-Fu'ah north of Al Ain, UAE. The following day, Dubai experienced heavy showers in several areas, including around Al Maktoum Airport. Footage shared by Storm Centre captured vehicles moving steadily along Emirates Road as rain poured down in Dubai.

In another video, strong rains were seen obscuring the view through the car's windshield, while in Abu Dhabi, the rain reduced visibility and drenched the city in much-needed coolness. Despite the challenges posed by the sudden weather changes, many residents welcomed the rainfall as a refreshing break from the usual heat.

Sudden weather changes in the UAE may include wind gusts, low visibility, and rain. Residents and visitors are reminded to exercise caution and follow the advice of local authorities during such events.

As the UAE continues to experience unstable weather conditions, particularly in Abu Dhabi, it serves as a reminder of the unpredictable yet beautiful aspects of nature. In the midst of the hustle and bustle of city life, the rare rainfall offers a moment of tranquillity and a chance to appreciate the simple beauty of a rainy day.
