Dragonfest takes priority over the golf course

The Waldeck am Edersee Golf Club is facing an uncertain future following the district's decision not to renew the lease agreement. The golf club, which relies on over 3,000 volunteer hours for maintenance, had expected a long-term contract renewal but was unwilling to accept a reduced 9-hole course, while the organisers of the Drachenfest preferred to use the entire area.

Horst Kleinschmidt, the club's president, has expressed feelings of betrayal. Negotiations between the Waldeck am Edersee Golf Club, the city and district of Waldeck-Frankenberg, and the Waldeckische Domanial administration to find a joint solution ended without success.

The area previously leased to the golf club will be used for the Drachenfest, a medieval and fantasy festival, starting from next year. The organisers of the Drachenfest, one of Germany's largest live role-playing (LARP) events, will lease the area from the Waldeckische Domanialverwaltung.

The specific reasons for the differing views between the parties were not detailed in the press release. The city and district of Waldeck-Frankenberg did not express their views on potential alternative plans for the golf course area, and the Waldeckische Domanial administration did not disclose any additional details about their position on the failed compromise.

The Waldeck am Edersee Golf Club invests approximately 150,000 euros annually for greenkeeping, but no immediate steps have been disclosed by the club in response to the decision. The club's stance on potential alternative plans remains unclear.

The district's decision has left the golf club facing closure, and the future of the green space remains uncertain. The Waldeck am Edersee Golf Club has been a significant part of the local community for many years, and its closure would be a significant loss.

As the situation develops, it is hoped that a solution can be found that benefits both the golf club and the community, and secures the future of the Waldeck am Edersee Golf Club for many years to come.
