Drake Wagers $300,000 on the US Open, Users Express Concerns over the Drake Jinx

In the ongoing US Open tournament, rapper Drake has once again dipped his toes into the world of sports betting, this time backing top-ranked Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner. The bet, worth $300,000, marks one of Drake's largest wagers in tennis and has drawn attention from media outlets worldwide.

Drake's bet comes at an interesting time, as Sinner is set to face Carlos Alcaraz, the current US Open champion and world No. 1, in the tournament. Alcaraz has been in excellent form, dropping only one set in the US Open so far. If Sinner were to win, Drake would stand to gain $345,000, reducing his total losses on publicly recorded tennis bets to $115,000.

The Drake curse, a phenomenon believed to cause the teams or individuals he bets on to lose, has been blamed for several major losses over the last few years. The curse is primarily associated with Drake's UFC and NBA bets, but this tennis bet continues the association. Notably, Drake lost a bet on Taylor Fritz to beat Sinner at the US Open in 2021, costing him $210,000.

Drake has made 81 bets on 57 individual events since 2022, and the Drake curse has been attributed to nine instances thus far. The singer has joked about the curse but also acknowledged that he is a "flawed" sports bettor. He has advised anyone paying attention not to gamble the same way he has been.

Despite the occasional loss, the Internet has generally been reasonable about the Drake curse, not nitpicking on every bet that Drake has placed. Some speculate that Sinner could become the next "victim" of the Drake curse, but only time will tell if the curse will strike again in this tennis tournament.

Meanwhile, Sinner, who has been world No. 1 in the PIF ATP Rankings for 65 consecutive weeks, is notable for reaching the final of all four majors in one season. His opponent, Alcaraz, is considered the only one who could potentially challenge him and his ongoing hot streak.

As the US Open tournament progresses, tennis fans and Drake enthusiasts alike will be eagerly watching to see if the Drake curse will have an impact on this high-stakes bet.
