Driver Abandoned Bicyclist on Roadside
In the Cologne district, a 19-year-old driver is under investigation after hitting a 16-year-old e-bike rider in Ahlen and not immediately reporting the incident to the police. The e-bike rider was found on the road early Saturday morning, severely injured as a result of the accident.
Skid marks at the scene suggest a collision with a car, but an initial search for the vehicle involved was unsuccessful. The driver, however, reportedly turned himself in at the police station in Hamm.
The public prosecutor's office has ordered a blood test due to suspected drug use by the driver. The driver's car, driver's license, and mobile phone were confiscated by the police.
The 16-year-old e-bike rider was taken to a hospital following the incident. The driver, who has not been identified in the available sources, is suspected of causing the accident but has yet to be formally charged.
The incident occurred at night, leaving the e-bike rider severely injured. The search results mention accidents involving e-scooters and bicycles and hit-and-run cases but do not specify the perpetrator in this incident.
As the investigation continues, the community in Ahlen and the wider Cologne district hopes for a swift resolution and justice for the 16-year-old e-bike rider. The public is reminded to drive responsibly and report any accidents to the authorities immediately.
