Drivers under the influence resist Police proceedings

In two separate incidents over the weekend, two drivers in Germany were charged with driving under the influence (DUI) and resisting arrest.

On Sunday, December 15, 2024, a 22-year-old man in Bielefeld refused to take a breath test during a police stop on An der Eckendorfer Straße. The officers managed to remove the man from the vehicle to take a blood sample. The police confiscated the man's driver's license.

According to reports, around 00:50, a witness reported a Fiat Punto driving erratically on the Ostring and Eckendorfer Straße in Bielefeld. The driver, under the influence of alcohol, refused to leave his car and clung to the steering wheel. The man struggled and swung his arms but did not hit anyone during the removal.

On the same day, a 29-year-old driver in Bielefeld refused to enter a patrol car after crashing under the influence of alcohol on the A30. He lightly hit a highway patrol officer during the incident. The same day, a 29-year-old driver from Minden overturned his Mercedes C-Class on the A30. An alcohol test confirmed the suspicion of alcohol consumption for the 29-year-old.

Both drivers were charged with resisting law enforcement in addition to driving under the influence. The 22-year-old spent the night in a police cell to sober up, while the 29-year-old refused to enter a patrol car for a blood test. The police are yet to release any information about the outcome of the blood test or any potential charges against the 22-year-old.

For more information about these incidents, please contact the press and public relations department of the Police Headquarters Bielefeld, whose contact details can be found on their website. At this time, there is no information available regarding any driver from Bielefeld or Minden who attacked or was arrested on Monday, December 16, 2024, after resisting the police alone or together.

A tow truck removed the Fiat Punto from the scene, while the Mercedes C-Class was taken to a nearby garage for repairs. The police urge all road users to drive responsibly and never to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
