Drone bearing Cyrillic symbols crashes in vicinity of Belarus-Poland border
In recent weeks, several unidentified drones have been discovered near the Polish-Belarusian border.
On 20 August, a drone fell approximately 300 metres from the Terespol border crossing. According to RMF FM, it was likely carrying contraband. The source of the information about this incident is not provided. European Pravda reported that another unidentified object had fallen and exploded in Osiny, Lublin Voivodeship on the same morning.
On Saturday, 6 September, an unidentified object was found in the village of Majdan Sielec in Lublin Voivodeship. The object was identified as a drone, and the source of the information is not provided. Another remains of an unknown flying object were discovered near the Terespol border crossing on the morning of 8 September. The location of this incident is not specified beyond being near the Belarusian border.
The Polish authorities are investigating these incidents. The Polish border guards, police, military personnel, and the local public prosecutor's office have cordoned off the areas and are carrying out examinations, including using explosive detection dogs. The Polish Border Guard has informed the relevant authorities and the District Prosecutor's Office in Biała Podlaska about the discoveries.
The wreckage of the drone found on 20 August had markings in Cyrillic, leading Polish authorities to suspect that the country's airspace had very likely been violated by a Russian Gerbera drone with a Chinese engine. However, the drone did not have an explosive component.
The Polish prosecutor's office reported the information about the drone, and European Pravda reported the possibility of a violation of Poland's airspace. The investigation is ongoing, and further details about the origin and purpose of the drones are not yet available.
