Drunk bicyclist tumbles and displays resistance

In the early hours of September 5, 2025, the Aachen Police were called to an incident involving a cyclist who was reported to be under the influence of alcohol. The cyclist, aged 20, was found near Ponttor at approximately 2 AM.

Upon arrival, the cyclist appeared to be intoxicated and resisted police measures. According to the Aachen Police, the cyclist pushed one of the officers, prompting a threat of immediate force. The cyclist then attempted to flee on foot towards the city outskirts.

Despite the resistance, the officers were able to apprehend the cyclist and restrain him on the ground. However, the cyclist continued to struggle and upon arrival at the hospital, he broke free and attempted to attack the officers.

Both officers involved sustained minor injuries but remained fit for duty. The cyclist was injured during the altercation and a blood sample was taken to determine his blood alcohol level. The cyclist refused to stop and declined a medical examination by the rescue service.

The investigation by the Aachen Police is not only focusing on the cyclist's resistance towards police measures, but also on his behaviour towards the rescue service and his actions upon arrival at the hospital. The Aachen Police Press Office can be contacted at 0241 / 9577 - 21211, or by email at [email protected] for further information.

The investigation aims to determine the cyclist's blood alcohol level and assess any potential charges for driving under the influence, resisting police officers, and any other relevant offences. The Aachen Police has initiated investigations for both resisting police officers and driving under the influence in relation to this incident.
