The Duchess of Kent, Katharine, has passed away at the age of 92. Buckingham Palace confirmed her death through a statement on their official social media account on Thursday night.
Katharine was born Katharine Lucy Mary Worsley on February 22, 1933, in Yorkshire. She married Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, in 1961, and was deeply passionate about music, charity work, and carving out her own path.
The Duchess of Kent is survived by her husband Edward, who is 89 years old, and their three children: George, Earl of St Andrews (62 years old), Lady Helen Taylor (60 years old), and Lord Nicholas Windsor (55 years old).
Katharine combined royal duties with an independent life of teaching and philanthropy. She was known as one of the most glamorous royals of her generation and was admired for her determination to carve out her own path.
Seven days of official mourning will be observed by Buckingham Palace, and a full Royal Family turnout is expected at the funeral. Flags will be flown at half mast and a notice displayed at the gates of the Palace.
Funeral arrangements for the Duchess of Kent will be private. The Duchess of Kent's final public appearance was in October 2024.
