Düsseldorf adjusts its local election strategy with a fresh leadership team from the Greens party.
The Düsseldorf Greens held successful elections for a new board over the weekend of 15/16 March, with voting taking place at Rheinblick 741. The elections, which utilised an electronic voting system, resulted in a largely renewed executive board and the election of four new deputies.
In the deputy election, Maximilian Fries and Patricia Guilleaume emerged victorious, with 87.94% and 88.65% of the votes, respectively. The electoral process saw Anas Al-Qura'an receiving the fewest votes. Notably, Helene van gen Hassend withdrew from the deputy election after several rounds of voting.
The deputy team now consists of Jenny-Mai Guse, who was elected as the new deputy with a clear majority vote, Helene van gen Hassend, Lisa Schulz-Achelis, and David Sasserath. Additionally, Lisa Schulz-Achelis was elected as the women's political speaker, joining the team.
The executive board consists of two speakers, the treasurer, and the political business manager. Maximilian Fries was elected as one of the new speakers, and Patricia Guilleaume expressed enthusiasm for working with the new board and managing the growing structures in the local branch. Gönül Özdemir was elected as the new treasurer, and Bernadette Neuhaus was elected as the new political business manager.
The search did not return relevant information about the new leadership group of the Greens in Düsseldorf for the May 2023 local elections. However, Maximilian Fries expressed the goal of electing Clara Gerlach as the first Green Mayor of Düsseldorf in September.
Voting devices were used instead of ballot papers in the elections, leading to quick vote counting. Sophie Karow and Christian Fritsch did not run again as speakers. The board of the Greens Düsseldorf now consists of eight members, elected for a term of two years.
The elections for the Düsseldorf Greens board concluded smoothly, paving the way for the new team to tackle the challenges and opportunities ahead in the local political landscape.
