Dusseldorf witnesses a change in leadership within its police inspectorate
Police Director Oliver Strudthoff Returns to Lead Police Inspectorate Mitte
Oliver Strudthoff, who previously served at the Police Inspectorate Mitte from 2017 to 2021, has returned to his role as its director since January 2023. The Police Inspectorate Mitte, located at the corner of Ratinger Street and Heinrich-Heine-Allee, is responsible for maintaining order in the Old Town, Ko, Central Station, and parts of Oberbilk.
In his office, various souvenirs from Strudthoff's previous activities, as well as the current carnival badge of the CC, are on display. The office, situated on the second floor of the Heinrich-Heine-Allee building, is next to the situation center, where up to 18 employees can monitor the "situation" if necessary.
Strudthoff is familiar with the use of advanced technologies in police work, such as Super-Recognizers and drones. He noted the use of drones for monitoring complex situations, like demonstrations or events such as the Rosenmontagszug.
The upcoming carnival is one of the major events within the area of responsibility for the Police Inspectorate Mitte. However, the police inspectorate currently does not have plans to install video surveillance on Worringer Platz.
Strudthoff serves as the leader, responsible for making decisions, but he cannot interfere with operational work. He likes to patrol his area personally, on foot or by public transport. During his presentation on Wednesday (12.2.), Strudthoff stated that not much has changed since he left the Police Inspectorate Mitte in 2021.
The Police Inspectorate Mitte is home to several units, including the motorcycle squad, focus service, PRIOS team, district service, civilian special forces, and leadership unit. The Old Town Watch is also part of the Police Inspectorate Mitte and is housed in the same building.
In addition to regular policing duties, the Police Inspectorate Mitte will also play a significant role in the Schumann Festival taking place in Düsseldorf near the Polizeipräsidium Mitte from June 5 to June 30, 2025. The festival will feature concerts, including a performance at the Tonhalle with clarinetist Sharon Kam and the Jerusalem Quartet.
Strudthoff is easily identifiable by his blue cap, which distinguishes him from other officers who wear white caps. He previously served as the leader of the International Police Cooperation Center (IPCC) in Neuss during UEFA EURO 2024. Despite his return, Strudthoff remains committed to maintaining a safe and orderly environment for the residents and visitors of Mitte.
