Fire in Mattighofen Wood Pellet Plant Under Investigation

A fire that broke out in a wood pellet plant in Mattighofen, Austria, on Friday has been contained, thanks to the swift action of local firefighters. The incident occurred in the district of Braunau and resulted in a significant deployment of emergency services.

According to the police, the fire was likely caused by a dust explosion. The exact nature of the technical malfunction leading to the explosion is still under investigation. The spread of flames to an adjacent residential block was prevented, and no residential block in the city center was affected.

The firefighters managed to contain the blaze, preventing it from spreading to a residential block in the vicinity. However, an adjacent residential block was evacuated due to the smoke development from the fire. Residents in the area were advised to keep their windows closed as a precautionary measure.

The APA was informed by the police about the cause of the fire on Saturday. The current investigation suggests a technical malfunction in a filter system may have caused the explosion. It's worth noting that a firefighter sustained minor injuries during the extinguishing operations.

Interestingly, a separate incident involving two teenagers attempting to extinguish a grass fire caused by fireworks occurred near the wood pellet plant. One of the teenagers was lightly injured during their attempts and was treated on site by the emergency responders.

The AT-Alert was triggered, sending a warning message directly to all logged-in mobile phones in the affected area. The authorities are working closely to ensure the safety of the community and to determine the exact cause of the fire. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
