East Harlem authorities are on the hunt for three perpetrators, implicated in a tragic shooting that took the life of a 69-year-old woman.
A tragic incident has shaken the peaceful community of East Harlem, as 69-year-old resident Robin Wright was fatally shot near her home on Wednesday afternoon.
Robin Wright, a longtime member of the community, was well-known for her friendly demeanour and could often be found smiling on a bench outside her building at NYCHA's Lehman Village development on Madison Avenue between East 110th and 109th streets.
The shooting occurred around 12:30 p.m. on East 110th Street and Madison Avenue, just a block from Central Park. According to reports, Robin was walking back to her building after getting Chinese food with her friend Juanita Arnold when the incident occurred.
Arnold described the harrowing scene, stating that she saw six or seven gunshots going off and Robin falling to the ground after the shooting. At the crime scene, Robin's abandoned walker was surrounded by a pool of blood on the sidewalk.
The suspects are described as three men wearing dark hoodies and black face masks. One was wearing gray sweatpants, another was wearing white sneakers, and the third was wearing black-and-red sneakers. The NYPD is still investigating who opened fire and why.
Robin Wright is survived by a son, a daughter, and several grandchildren. Her loss has left a deep void in the community, with neighbours expressing their shock and sorrow.
86-year-old neighbour Alfred Mack stated he hasn't left his house since the shooting due to being hurt. Jo Ann Canty, vice president of the Lehman Village tenant association, expressed nervousness about the recent increase in violence. She suggested that city officials should take further action to remove guns from the streets.
The Mayor Eric Adams' administration claimed to have removed over 3,000 illegal guns from city streets this year. However, the data shows that shootings citywide are currently down 20% compared to last year.
Canty also mentioned that the summer was initially quiet but is now becoming active again. She urged the community to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
This incident serves as a grim reminder of the ongoing issue of gun violence in our cities. Our thoughts are with Robin Wright's family and friends during this difficult time.
