Ecological Ganesh Festival 2025 in Navi Mumbai: NMMC Introduces 143 Synthetic Ponds, Pushes for Floral Waste Composting
Navi Mumbai is leading the way in environmentally sustainable practices during this year's Ganeshotsav festival. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has taken several initiatives to promote an eco-friendly celebration.
One of the key initiatives is the arrangement of separate collection vessels (Nirmalya Kalash) at all immersion sites. These vessels are used to segregate wet floral offerings and dry decorative waste, in addition to the floral waste collection by NGOs such as the Dr. Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari Pratishthan.
The Dr. Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari Pratishthan is actively participating in the eco-friendly Ganeshotsav initiative. During the one-and-a-half-day immersions, they collected an impressive 534 kg of floral waste from Dharan Talao in Koparkhairane (Sector 19), Mahape Talao, and Sector 9 Extension Talao.
The floral waste collected from immersion sites is transported to a processing site in Turbhe, where it is carefully segregated into petals for conversion into organic compost. This compost will be used to enhance greenery in Navi Mumbai.
Idols up to six feet are being immersed in 143 artificial ponds created across all civic wards. The NMMC is also presenting certificates of appreciation to devotees for their eco-friendly efforts at immersion sites.
Citizens are responding positively to the appeal for using clay idols and eco-friendly decorations. Dedicated vehicles are transporting the collected floral waste to the Turbhe processing site.
The use of compost in Navi Mumbai aims to blend faith in Lord Ganesha with care for nature. This initiative is part of the NMMC's larger goal to protect natural water bodies and offer safe immersion facilities.
While the names of the NGOs involved in implementing the ecological initiatives of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation during Ganeshotsav 2025 are not publicly specified, their efforts are undoubtedly contributing to a greener and cleaner Navi Mumbai. This eco-friendly Ganeshotsav is a testament to the city's commitment to sustainable practices and its dedication to preserving its natural resources.
