Ecological issues in Kyzylorda region were tackled by Majelysmen
The Kyzylorda region faced a gathering of regional leadership, industrial representatives, international experts, and Chinese investors recently, as they convened to address pressing environmental issues in the region. The meeting, led by Edil Zhambyrshin, focused on finding solutions to the region's environmental concerns.
At the onset of the year, the Government of the Kyzylorda Region held a field committee meeting to delve into environmental issues, with Zhambyrshin emphasizing the urgency to develop practical steps alongside the regional Akim, government agencies, and businesses.
One of the primary concerns discussed was the problem of soil pollution by the waste of the former TEC-6, as well as unauthorized dumps. The meeting also highlighted a lack of capacity for the treatment of industrial wastewater and waste in the region, with delays in the construction of wastewater treatment facilities in Kyzylorda.
During the meeting, it was revealed that only seven out of 145 solid waste landfills have permits and meet environmental requirements. To tackle this issue, the meeting participants expressed their readiness to implement technologies that minimize environmental impact, such as the production of medical products and laminate using modern technologies.
The restoration of the dried-up bed of the Aral Sea was identified as one of the main problems. To combat this, the plan is to plant saxaul on an area of 1.1 million hectares by the end of the year.
Chinese experts presented technologies for water purification, industrial waste recycling, and the production of construction materials from secondary resources. These technologies, they expressed, could be implemented in Kazakhstani enterprises.
The cost of the wastewater treatment project, approved in 2019, has doubled and is now estimated at 5.1 billion tenge. The region's Akim, Nurlybek Nalibayev, mentioned that 61 investment projects involving Chinese companies are being considered.
The meeting concluded with a promise of constant control by the Majilis Committee on Environmental and Natural Resources Issues. The participants agreed that all issues would be under their watchful eye.
During the on-site event, deputies visited industrial facilities, the industrial zone "Industry", wastewater treatment plants, and inspected the progress of the combined-cycle power plant construction. The implementation of environmental legislation and measures for its improvement were also discussed at the meeting.
In summary, the meeting in the Kyzylorda region aimed to tackle pressing environmental issues, focusing on soil pollution, waste management, and the Aral Sea restoration. The participants agreed to implement practical steps, including the use of modern technologies, to minimize environmental impact and ensure a sustainable future for the region.
