Ecologically Friendly Containers Delivered in Abundance in Puerto Morelos
In the picturesque tourist destination of Puerto Morelos, Mexico, a significant step towards sustainability was taken as over 400 eco-friendly containers were delivered as part of the "Palabra Cumplida" program. The program, spearheaded by the current mayor, Laura Fernández Piña, aims to foster a culture of environmental responsibility among citizens, students, and business owners.
The containers, delivered in two sizes - medium (260 liters) and large (1,100 liters) - were funded by the Environmental Sanitation Trust to the tune of 2 million pesos. These containers, now placed in all neighborhoods of Puerto Morelos, including the municipal seat, Leona Vicario borough, and the tourist area, contribute significantly to the destination's sustainability and clean image.
The joint work, involving collaboration from the hotel and business sectors, schools, and environmentally-committed citizens, is a testament to the community's commitment to keeping public spaces clean. The project also emphasizes environmental education among young people, a crucial step towards ensuring the preservation of Puerto Morelos's natural beauty for future generations.
Puerto Morelos, recognised as a green municipality with a focus on balancing development and environmental protection, is setting an example for other tourist destinations. The delivery of these containers marks a significant milestone in the joint work towards a more orderly and sustainable Puerto Morelos. The community is encouraged to actively participate in this initiative, reinforcing the cleanliness and sustainability of the destination.
