Educators from around the world initiate a certification program aimed at instructing in schools within North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW)

Starting this September, the application phases for the one-year university program "LehrkräftePlus" will open, marking the beginning of a new journey for teachers with a migration background in NRW. This program is a crucial step towards their integration into the German school system.

The "ILF – Internationale Lehrkräfte fördern" ("ILF – Promoting International Teachers") two-year teacher training program in the Münster district is carried out by the Bezirksregierung Münster. Designed specifically for teachers with a university degree related to teaching and professional experience in their home country, the ILF program aims to help them return to their learned profession in Germany.

Successful completion of the one-year "Lehrkräfte Plus" qualification program at various universities in NRW allows teachers to apply for the ILF program. Once selected, individuals are hired on a two-year contract and start teaching independently at a school in the district for 12 hours a week.

The participants praised the good support they received from the school staff, particularly the mentors, during their transition into the German school system. Teachers also receive targeted content and language support from these mentors at their school, as well as visits by subject leaders from the Center for Practical Teacher Training (ZfsL) of the state of NRW, to provide advice and feedback.

The ILF program requires participants to have very good German language skills (C1 level) and a positive outlook on staying in Germany. Participants of the ILF program are supported by the Münster District Government's two-year qualification "ILF - International Teachers Foster".

During their time in the program, teachers have the opportunity to exchange ideas with their peers who are now moving into the second year of the qualification. This exchange provides a valuable platform for sharing experiences and learning from each other's successes and challenges.

The ultimate goal of the ILF program is to facilitate the integration of these teachers into the German school system and help them practice their profession in Germany. With the comprehensive support offered by the Münster District Government and the dedication of the participating teachers, it's an exciting time for international educators in Germany.
