Egyptian company Intella secures $12.5 million in Series A funding to expand Arabic language speech technology capabilities
Intella, a pioneering company based in the MENA region, has announced a significant $12.5 million Series A funding round. This investment, led by Prosus, a renowned global investor with deep operational expertise, marks a significant milestone in Intella's mission to power a digital AI workforce across the Arabic-speaking world.
Founded in 2021 by Nour AlTaher and Omar Mansour, Intella specializes in dialectal Arabic speech intelligence. The company's suite of models includes a cutting-edge dialectal Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) engine and a conversational AI agent named Ziila.
Intella's focus is on building Arabic-first AI models for enterprise contact centers in the MENA region. The company has become the leading Arabic speech intelligence company, with its speech-to-text models achieving a global record accuracy of 95.73 per cent.
The funding will be used to accelerate Intella's mission. The company plans to double down on research and development, product expansion, and regional hiring. This investment will also help Intella in its goal of helping every enterprise in the region transform their customer conversations from dark data into a strategic asset.
The technology developed by Intella enables businesses to unlock data-driven insights to improve customer satisfaction, ensure quality control, and increase operational efficiency. The suite of models provides foundational technology for enterprises to analyze customer conversations and build next-generation customer experiences.
Intella's vision is to bridge the gap between global AI advancements and the Arabic-speaking world. The new funding allows Intella to move beyond generic AI and deliver localised, human-like conversations at scale. The company's proprietary speech-to-text models are tailored to more than 25 dialects.
The main investor group leading Intella's Series A financing round is Prosus, with participation from investors including 500 Global, Wa’ed Ventures, Hala Ventures, Idrisi Ventures, and HearstLab, the investment arm of Hearst Corporation. This diverse group of investors underscores the global appeal and potential of Intella's technology.
Prior to this Series A round, Intella closed a US$3.4 million pre-Series A funding round in October 2023. This early investment set the stage for the company's rapid growth and success.
With this new funding, Intella is poised to make a significant impact on the MENA region and beyond, revolutionizing the way businesses interact with their customers in Arabic.
