Elderly Filipino-American family viciously assaulted in Las Vegas calls for justice to be served
Hate Crime Sentencing for Christian Lentz Delayed Until August 2025
In a Las Vegas courtroom on Monday, the sentencing for Christian Lentz, who pleaded guilty but mentally ill to hate crime charges related to the brutal assault of Amadeo Quindara, was postponed until August 4, 2025. The sentencing date was set to be earlier, but the case has been delayed multiple times, with the most recent pushback due to issues over restitution costs exceeding $83,000 for medical bills, travel, and home security.
The attack on Quindara, a 77-year-old Filipino American, occurred in his garage on May 30, 2023. According to reports, Quindara was first threatened by Lentz before being slammed to the ground and repeatedly punched in the face, resulting in deep cuts on his head and face, a brain bleed, memory loss, and permanent injuries. Quindara's wife found him in a pool of blood after the assault.
The Quindara family has expressed their dissatisfaction with the defense presented by Lentz's lawyer, Mandy McKellar. Philip Quindara, Amadeo Quindara's son, asserted that the attack was not a random act but a targeted hate crime due to his father's ethnicity. The assault is described as a hate-fueled attack, and Lentz has been accused of using racial slurs during the incident.
In a security camera recording, Lentz was heard making threats towards Quindara, stating he would be on a ventilator and would die. The courtroom heard this recording during the hearing. Lentz apologized for the attack during the courtroom proceedings.
Lentz's lawyer, McKellar, stated that Lentz was suffering from a severe psychotic break from bipolar disorder during the attack. However, the Quindara family disagrees with this defense, stating the attack was a hate crime.
The violent incident has left a lasting impact on the Quindara family. Phil, Quindara's son, stated that their home, previously a safe place, became the site of an unthinkable incident. The family was in the courtroom this week, awaiting the sentencing of Lentz.
The sentencing hearing will take place on August 4, 2025, at 9 a.m. The prosecutor is seeking a sentence between four to ten years for Lentz. The Quindara family hopes that justice will be served and that the sentencing will bring some closure to their ordeal.
