Elderly Man Apprehended for Allegedly Assaulting Individuals from SEK Region
In a tense operation on Tuesday, a 56-year-old man from Biberach an der Riß was removed from his apartment by a special forces unit (SEK) following an alleged incident of attempted manslaughter and arson.
According to reports, the man was in a state of mental distress and was armed with a knife during the operation. He allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail at special police forces, which missed them by a few meters and did not continue to burn after being thrown. A canister presumed to be filled with gasoline was also found in his apartment.
The incident began when an employee of the St. Elisabeth-Stiftung care service, who suspected the man was in a helpless situation, alerted the police due to the man's failure to open the door. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the man had gasoline cans in his apartment.
During the operation, the man allegedly resisted and sustained minor injuries. He was initially taken to a clinic for his injuries before being taken into custody. The special forces prevented the man from throwing any more incendiary devices, ensuring no danger to the public during the incident.
The man is currently in custody, accused of attempted manslaughter and attempted arson. It is a relief to the community that there was no reported danger to the public during the incident, and the quick actions of the special forces unit likely prevented a potentially tragic outcome.
