Elderly Man Arrested: 74-year-old Richard "Dick" P. Maguire, a resident of
Dick Maguire, a beloved figure in the Albuquerque community, passed away at his home in the city on an undisclosed date. Maguire, a distinguished alumnus of Albuquerque Academy and the University of New Mexico, will be remembered for his significant contributions to Computer Science and Defense-related Research, as well as his prowess on the tennis court.
Born to Norman and Polly Maguire in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Maguire's academic journey began at Albuquerque Academy, where he excelled in Mathematics. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Math from the University of New Mexico. In pursuit of further knowledge, Maguire later obtained a Master's degree in Computer Science from the University of Colorado and an MBA from the University of New Mexico.
Maguire's professional career spanned several decades, culminating in his retirement as a Senior Software Developer from Intel Corporation. His work in Computer Science and Defense-related Research left an indelible mark on the industry.
Apart from his professional achievements, Maguire was an accomplished tennis player. He won three state singles championships in high school and served as the #1 singles and doubles player for the UNM Lobos. His passion for the sport continued throughout his life, and his skills were admired by many.
Maguire is survived by his cherished grandchildren, Mason, Maddie, and Kensie Maguire, as well as his wife Patty Eckert Maguire, three children, Melanie Maguire, Shannon Maguire and husband Brent Kuemmerle, and Martin "Marty" Maguire and wife Kellie Irwin Maguire. He also leaves behind his siblings, Marilyn, Susie, and Chuck.
The community will have the opportunity to celebrate Maguire's life in two events. On Sunday, September 7, 2025, a gathering will be held at the Tennis Club of Albuquerque. The following day, a Funeral Mass will be held at St. John XXIII Catholic Community.
