In just four years, German citizens will once again have the opportunity to decide which members of parliament will represent them in the Bundestag, the federal legislative body. As the campaign for the Bundestag election kicks off, all major parties have started their efforts to secure votes.

The Union, comprising of the CDU and CSU, has announced Friedrich Merz as their chancellor candidate for the 2025 German federal election. This decision was made in September 2024, after other contenders like Markus Söder and Hendrik Wüst stepped aside. The FDP, on the other hand, has named Christian Lindner as their leading candidate. The Greens, too, have put forward Robert Habeck as their chancellor candidate.

The Bundestag, where members of parliament work, is a crucial place where decisions for all people in Germany are made. Members of parliament, who are mostly party members, determine the laws that govern the country. The federal chancellor, the head of the federal government in Germany, plays a pivotal role in this process. They are elected by the Bundestag and have the most political power.

The current climate policy, according to the FDP, has had a detrimental impact on the economy. As a result, the FDP wants to change climate policy for economic reasons. The Greens, on the other hand, want to do more for climate protection and Europe. They also aim to focus on the economy.

The CSU exists only in Bavaria, while the CDU is present in other federal states. The Greens, too, are a nationwide party. The federal chancellor, once elected, decides what policies will be made in Germany. The role of the federal chancellor is to make decisions on policy for Germany.

The federal chancellor's election is a key event in the Bundestag election. The outcome of this election will shape the future of Germany, influencing its economy, climate policy, and international relations. With the election fast approaching, it's crucial for citizens to stay informed and make their voices heard.
