Electric bike manufacturing initiates on Ola Roadster line
The electric vehicle landscape has expanded with the launch of Ola Roadster electric motorcycles, marking a significant step for Ola Electric. The motorcycles, equipped with three battery pack options, are scheduled to hit the market starting in late 2024 or early 2025.
The Ola Roadster offers three battery options: 2.5kWh, 3.5kWh, and 4.5kWh, while the X variant comes with a choice of 3.5kWh, 4.5kWh, and 6kWh. The top-tier 6kWh battery pack promises a claimed range of 248 km, and the base Ola Roadster X starts at ₹74,999, with prices escalating to ₹1,39,999 for the top-end models.
The Ola Roadster boasts a 7-inch TFT console, a 13kW motor, and an impressive claimed top speed of 126 kmph. The X variant, on the other hand, offers a slightly lower top speed of 124 kmph, and its LCD instrument console features turn-by-turn navigation, cruise control, reverse mode, TPMS (tyre pressure monitoring system), geo-fencing, and more.
The motorcycles are designed to accelerate from 0-40 kmph in a swift 2.2 seconds, showcasing their impressive performance capabilities. However, the success of the Ola Roadster in helping to arrest the company's dwindling sales will be determined in the coming months.
Ola Electric's founder, Bhavish Aggarwal, announced the production of the company's first electric motorcycle in August 2024. Yet, the sales of Ola have fallen drastically, and the company is facing legal issues due to poor after-sales and quality issues.
The launch of the Ola Roadster comes amidst these challenges, and it remains to be seen how the motorcycles will contribute to Ola Electric's revival. The claimed range for the 4.5kWh battery pack is 200 km, while the X variant offers a range of 180 km with its 3.5kWh battery pack.
