Electric bus makes debut on trial run in Dresden

A new electric bus, provided by Solaris Bus & Coach, has begun test operation in the city of Dresden. The bus, which is 18.1 meters long and has four doors, is currently operating on route 68 between Goppeln and Niederwartha, with plans for further deployment on routes 61 and 63.

The bus, equipped with an electrically operated heat pump for temperature control, is capable of both heating and cooling. This feature ensures a comfortable riding experience for passengers regardless of the weather conditions. The windows of the bus are tinted grey to protect against direct sunlight, adding to the comfort of the ride.

The interior design of the bus is slightly different from usual, but it meets the Dresden standard for public transport. The bus offers seating for 44 passengers, providing ample space for commuters. Unlike other buses, the electric bus cannot be recharged at the end points, but it is charged overnight at the Gruna depot via a cable.

The bus is 18.1 meters long and has four doors, making it easily accessible for passengers. It is equipped with the ability to lower at bus stops for boarding and alighting, as per the Dresden standard for public transport. The drivers of the electric bus are familiar with the cockpit design, similar to modern MAN diesel buses, eliminating the need for special training.

After the test operation, the drivers will be asked for their assessment in a direct comparison with the electric buses already in service with the Dresden Verkehrsbetriebe (DVB). This feedback will be crucial in determining the suitability of the bus for regular service in the city.

With this test operation, Dresden continues to show its commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly public transportation. The success of this new electric bus could pave the way for more electric buses to join the city's public transport fleet in the future.
